Spring Street Inn ( Newport )
An 1858 Empire Victorian, centrally located in downtown Newport in the "Waterfront Yachting District." Private baths, air conditioning, free parking, gourmet breakfast, afternoon refreshments and an historic Newport gift. Historically significant, Spring Street Inn is an Empire Victorian Inn built in 1858 by one of the investors in the Fall River Steamship Company as his residence. Spring Street Inn may have been a stop on the Underground Railroad.
The Inn is beautifully decorated and furnished with fine antiques, historic prints of old Newport and fresh floral arrangements. Innkeepers Patricia Golder and Jack Lang emphasize hospitality in casually elegant surroundings.
A delicious gourmet "Breakfast-Brunch" is served between 8:30 and 10:30 am, either "a la carte" or buffet, depending upon season. Daily menus of hot entrees (between three and five selections) may include your choice of omelets with a selection of fillings, fresh fruit crepes, Eggs Benedict, cinnamon-vanilla French toast, or eggs any style.
Spring Street Inn is one block from the restaurants and shops of Thames Street, and Newport's magnificent harbor. A two-minute walk brings you to the International Yacht Restoration School, home to many historic sailing and power yachts from the Gilded Era. Bannister's and Bowen's Wharves and the Newport Yachting Center are a short walk away. Newport's fabled Bellevue Avenue, with its world famous Gilded Era mansions, is located just one block east of Spring Street Inn.
